Rajaji National Park is situated in Uttarakhand between the Shivalik Ranges and the Indo-Gangetic plains. Due to its unique geographical location, Rajaji National Park benefits from a harmonious blend of the floral characteristics of both the Himalayan and upper Gangetic plains. This strategic positioning provides the national park with a diverse range of wildlife habitats, making it one of the most ecologically rich regions in Uttarakhand.
Rajaji National Park encompasses diverse ecosystems, including grasslands, riverine forests, and the slopes of the Shivalik Hills, creating a sanctuary for a vast array of plant and animal species. The reserve is home to a wide variety of trees, shrubs, orchids, fungi, mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and insects, offering visitors a truly adventurous experience. The park's unique position allows it to feature floral elements from both the Himalayan region and the Upper Gangetic Plains. Rajaji National Park's biodiversity is further enhanced by its eight major forest types, which include the Western Gangetic Moist, Northern Dry Deciduous, and Khair-Sissoo forests on the southern slopes, the Low Alluvial Savannah Woodlands along the southern margins, and the Shivalik Chir-Pine forests in the higher elevations of the hills.
